I am a fourth year Arts & Science student at the University of Guelph, specializing in biology, biotechnology and French with a certificate in business. I started volunteering in Dr. Hajibabaei’s lab in February 2020. I assist with various lab protocols, such as sample homogenization, and DNA extraction, as well as sample collection in the field. I have previous lab experience at the university assisting in a zoology lab, where I sorted and took microscopic pictures of various Staphylinidae (rove beetles) and other insects. I also volunteered at the Royal Ontario Museum in the Schad Gallery of Biodiversity for two years. There, I took on the role of a science communicator, displaying museum specimens to promote and educate the public on biodiversity and conservation. In the future, I hope to continue studying biology and am interested in pursuing a post-graduate education.
